The Center’s board has worked diligently for over five years to secure the funding needed to rehabilitate and provide a long-over due upgrade to the Center’s facilitates. The project would not only provide needed infrastructure improvements like new wiring and plumbing; it will also make needed changes to the space configuration to better facilitate the day to day program which welcomes those who are experiencing homelessness and invites them to belong to a community of support.
The Center has secured construction bids to complete a $2M renovation of this 5,000 square foot two-story building, with a surrounding landscaped area for clients and community gatherings. This year we secured a commitment of $1.5M from an Urban Development Action Grant (UDAG) loan repayment allocation. These funds have been held by the CRA, and were recently transferred to the city’s Economic & Workforce Development Department. With the help of Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell, the City Council approved allocation of these funds for the Center’s rehabilitation project. In addition, the Center has been received a generous commitment of $300,000 from other public sources bringing our funding total to $1.8 million and leaving a gap of $200,000 to be raised.
We are seeking six to eight key partners to provide grants of $10,000 to $100,000 to help us raise the $200,000 to secure our public funding and the completion of the project. We need to raise these funds by August 15, 2014. All our partners will enjoy naming rights within the walls of The Center.
